Rafael Lira Infante confió la Dirección de la Universidad Catòlica de Valparaíso a partir de 1952 y hasta 1962. El Padre Barros, académico brillante, centró su docencia en el área de la Educación sirviendo las cátedras de Didactica, Psicologia del Aprendizaje, Evaluación Educacional, Cultura Religiosa y Sagradas Escrituras sobresaliendo en todas ellas sus exposiciones documentadas, brillantemente expuestas y un muy elevado rigor académico.
